So living in Utah means we didn't get any snow until December 3.
And yes I know it's crazy to complain about the warmth for once, but honestly I just missed the snow so bad. I love it, I hate being so cold all the time where you just seem frozen and stiff but I love the snow surrounding me, making things seem brighter than they should be and softening the edges of the harsh world. I don't know.
So anyways, here is My wonderful friend Auburn and I in the middle of November. That's right, picture time!
She is so wonderful. She's the kind of girl who thinks of others and always knows how to bring a smile and a laugh even at the literally darkest hours (2 am??) She's the kind of friend who leaves you a note and a surprise when you're having a rotten day and is a positive influence on the lives around you. I tell ya.

Good For Something More
In my Book of Mormon packet for class there is this quote:
"You are good. But it is not enough just to be good. You must be good for something. You must contribute good to the world. The world must be a better place for your presence. And the good that is in you must be spread to others. I do not suppose that any of us here this day will be remembered a thousand years from now. I do not suppose that we ill be remembered a century from now. But in this world so filled with problems, so constantly threatened by dark and evil challenges, you can and must rise above mediocrity, above indifference. You can become involved and speak with a strong voice for that which is right"
- Gordon B. Hinckley
That went along with the scripture 2 Nephi 28:21-24 "Wo unto those who are at ease in Zion."
P.S. So buried in books and homework and studying and tests, but don't worry I still come up for air every once and a while.

Why?
I thought this was over, yet somehow you just keep catching my eye.

What is more fun than spreadsheets?
So today the struggling attempt in submitting my spreadsheets/information systems assignment was worse than ever before. There is an assignment once a week and it is over the internet and uses excel to step by step take instructions and produce a spreasheet or fulfill a question, or solve or create a chart etc. and than you submit it over the internet and it instantly produces your mark. Unfortunately you can not save this file or it won't submit because that would lead to potential easy opportunities for students to cheat I guess? But in my case it means I have to do my spreadsheet assignment multiple times before I can get it to submit. My computer, although I love it and all of the goodness it helps me with in university, it loves to randomly delete or shut down my excel program while I am working on it or today as soon as I finish it 5 times consecutively. After the third time it deleted, I gave up.
Tonight my older brother's friend had invited me to her Early Halloween Extravaganza and it was a blast. I was so glad she invited me to come. Sunshine let me borrow her flapper costume, so cute and handmade btw!! And so I didn't even have to stress about that, and Jared and Sunshine dressed as Batman and Bat girl. Sunshine looked so edgy and babein'! Anywho so I was glad their last minute costumes turned out super well.
(not the best quality photos I know, but it gives the general idea)
ANYWAYS. so I gave up on my spreadsheets assignment, willing to take a zero since there was no way it was going to be submitted. I went out and got ready went to the party and had a fun time just eating, talking, playing a great game of werewolf, even though I forgot who was the werewolf and I was vanhelsing(holga?) so I kind of let the entire village die, oops! Anyways, it was nice, I didn't have to stress, and just enjoy the company and evening.
So I got dropped off at 10, and since I had two hours before my spreadsheets assignment was due, I thought I would keep trying until midnight. I tried twice more, the frustration grew as both times it failed. I restarted my computer, and thought about asking my neighboring dorm lovely ladies if I could try on their computer, the computer was too slow and it didn't work on their excel, as well as another failed attempt on mine. I thought I was about to have my eyes sweat my way to sleep in anger and frustration at the fact that my course mark was going to be so damaged in consequence. I even took pictures of the process and shut down and emailed them to the TA saying, what can I do!? I sure hope he can help me since I have always had to submit multiple times before it works. Then Katie saw me in the hall, patiently asked me what was going on, I didn't let my eyes sweat, in frustration I tried again and she stayed with me and kept me company. I wondered if anyone else in my hall with excel and a pc would be willing to let me try on their computer, she immediately suggests a mutual friend- her room mate, who is fine with it, and I set to work of completing the assignment for what felt as if it were the thousandth time. I no longer even needed to read the assignment, all titles and alterations were memorized and executed on the spreadsheet. I tried to submit the assignment, the excel did NOT delete itself or shut down, but it wouldn't submit because of the internet connection? which was FINE. My heart dropped, Katie took the computer and tried again. Fail to submit. I tried switching the internet connections and voila success. It submitted and I got a 96%.
I can not even explain to you how happy I was at this moment in time. I almost didn't believe it. My hands shook and I grinned.
Wow, this does not even seem like a big deal, but this assignment was the death of me this evening, and in the joy of success, and plans to celebrate with ice cream with Katie my eyes even leaked a few drops of liquid joy.
She goes longboarding with me, talks with me, laughs with me and knows how to cheer me up. She's so wonderful and so much fun. I am so grateful I have met her this year! She even helped me to not give up on my spreadsheets assignment when I thought it was going to be the death of me.
I know that God wants us to succeed, and I know that he helps us through others. There are so many wonderful people that I have met this year at university who have been helping me to succeed. Even if it is just a short visit or encouragement, their impact on me has been so wonderful. Tonight it was Katie, earlier this week it was Lewis, Tiffany, and multiple times it has been my room mate Auburn.
Those relationships we spend so much time to build and develop, even though they are just torn away sometimes, they are so worth it. The friends that we make are the people that help us to be better, brighter, happier and they are the gems in our lives, even if they are only there a little while. I don't know where I would be without the support of my family and friends. I love them so much. I am so grateful that God has blessed me so much.

Music Monday
Song that I am lovin today. Also, pictures from tumblr that I am also lovin.
Classy Girls by the Lumineers
Well, she was standing in the bar
I said, "Hello, how do you do?"
She handed me a beer with a kangaroo.
She spoke of places I had never been
That she had traveled to
And we slow danced along to faster tunes
And I made her laugh, I made a pass,
I showed her my half dollar ring
She said, "That's pretty cool,
But classy girls don't kiss in bars, you fool"
(No they don't)
So later on the crowd calmed down
And I believe it was as if something drew me closer to her lips
So picture my surprise when I had tried to lean in for a kiss
And she just smiled and turned her head down
I asked her, "Why?" and she replied
It was nothing I was doing wrong, it's just what it is.
No, classy girls don't kiss in bars like this
No, classy girls don't kiss in bars
Boys will break their backs and hearts
But it's alright, the hardest part is through.

Throwback Thursday
It's funny because that's the night I taught her how to longboard, and we took pictures together and walked around town, but it seems like the majority of the photos mysteriously disappeared so she couldn't send me more...haha doesn't matter. Love that kid.
Alright, Alright, Here's the BYU Update
My Mom and I before she left |
Jared and Sunshine excited to be back at school |
All of us looking Crazy |
So I kind of love it so much.
Finally learning what I want to learn.
Finally doing what I want to do.
During orientation, I had to go to an international student meeting because I am foreign in the US. Anywho, so I ended up winning a free Jamba Juice because of my amazing artist skills haha.
I have the best room mate and wonderful girls all living in my hall. I even met another blogger!
This is her blog btw's: http://sincerely-ericamichelle.blogspot.com/
Soon after we got there, the day before classes started, it was my roommate's birthday! Woo! So of course we had to do some exciting stuff. We sang and ate and went to some activities and had late night pancakes and got caught in the rain.
The Canadians! Me, Ty and Auburn on her birthday at FHE |
Anywho, it's just great. I have tons of homework, the food is meh or really good but super fattening and so on and so forth. My favorite class is definitely Accounting, the Professor is phenomenal. He's so good that I actually get up early to go class at 8!
There is also this place which is kind of hilarious but super rad is called The Wall. It's like a mormon bar, so there's like sodas and karaoke and bands play and it's like a lounge. it's pretty great though. Anywho here's another gang picture.
Tiffany, me, Jacob, Chris (up), Ty, Dylan, Danial |
Auburn- hiking the Y |
Kayla |
Courtney and Sam |
The gang |
At the Y |
Roomies |
So sassy |
Cady, Auburn and I - love them! |
Went to the Parachute concert last week in Salt Lake. It was my first official concert other than Down With Webster at the Coca Cola Stage at stampede. It was a lot of fun, and they were great live. There was some shenaniganning downtown after we waited for the train back to Provo, but it was great. I even got a picture with the lead singer of the opening band Paradise Fears.
The weather is hot and beautiful and other than some rain storms every now and then it's like super hot weather. It's already snowed in Calgary I see, while I'm just wearing t-shirts everyday still because anything more is too hot!
I even finally received stationary in the mail so I can send letters to missionaries and friends and junk. It's pretty exciting stuff. Anywho, here is my crazy all over the place recap of the BYU life.

A love like that
Came in together, but you held me
The process walking right through that door, at the entry
I can't seem to remember, the lights were so bright
And the disco-ball blurred in the turn of that night
But it was perfect I was told the tux was starched and all
Grabbed the glass of punch nervousness, structured by that wall
Arms folded, myself I didn't know yet
Until you came over, stood by me, you posted
You put your hand out like I was stranded
Tried to pull me on that dance floor
I stepped backwards
See I wasn't ready yet, but you were my medicine
Showed me that trust through that love that you held me with
our backs against the wall as the DJ would spin
The soundtrack had changed as he played that mix
Our lives flashed in front of us, just a glimpse
We were together and experience this
The process walking right through that door, at the entry
I can't seem to remember, the lights were so bright
And the disco-ball blurred in the turn of that night
But it was perfect I was told the tux was starched and all
Grabbed the glass of punch nervousness, structured by that wall

Showed me that trust through that love that you held me with
our backs against the wall as the DJ would spin
The soundtrack had changed as he played that mix
Our lives flashed in front of us, just a glimpse
We were together and experience this
You finally pulled me up, I didn't want to
But you filled me up, from the bottom of my heart
And as we walked through that gymnasium that I'd been watching
Feeling like my chest would explode from my heartbeat
To the middle of the floor I almost panicked
You put your hand out and I fearfully grabbed it
The most beautiful thing that I'd seen on this planet
She laughed 'cause you could tell that I didn't know how to dance yet
We started moving
And I, didn't know what I was doing
You whispered, "don't you love music
it's such a gift and I'll give it to ya
But you gotta use it"
I strayed
You brought me back in
trying to sneak a flask outside of that gym
She said "You don't need that, look within"
She hugged me, looked into my eyes, she gave me a kiss
And she said "I can't help you, if you don't let me
You're here to live just be, don't forget me
The end of this dance you don't want to regret me, live
'Cause tonight you'll all be set free"
But you filled me up, from the bottom of my heart
And as we walked through that gymnasium that I'd been watching
Feeling like my chest would explode from my heartbeat
To the middle of the floor I almost panicked
You put your hand out and I fearfully grabbed it

The end of this dance you don't want to regret me, live
'Cause tonight you'll all be set free"
Last dance the DJ yelled
looked into her eyes and I could see myself
Slow motion, frozen, toast of this moment
Like there is no morning, like there is no morning
No emotions, you on my shoulder
Me lead and you follow
As we circle the floor like the globe
Through this infinite mass
Makes us seem so small
With you in my hand like the skyline holds the stars
not letting go, but I can't hold on
Fading through my fingertips, watching us fall
I try to catch you with my arms
I would never take you for granted when I had you in my palms
To all I ever wanted, please play my song
And put the record to the needle, don't ever touch that off switch
You are perfect, forget that prom dress
My God, seconds away from God yes
Somebody turned the heat on in this party
Or we're becoming one because I'm melting into your body
one being, heartbeating, universe falling
The ground split right between us and that concrete
Separated my love, I could hear her calling
Separated, but I could hear her calling
Goodbye forever, never see you again
Winterball 2012, The End
looked into her eyes and I could see myself
Slow motion, frozen, toast of this moment
Like there is no morning, like there is no morning
No emotions, you on my shoulder
Me lead and you follow

So I pretty much just love Macklemore and Ryan Lewis by the way. Yeah.
